Buckwheat Express Vehicle Storage Facility |

The very long and severe winters of Preston County posed unique problems in providing transportation services to the general public, and specifically the senior citizens of the area. The Preston County Senior Citizens organization, responsible for the Buckwheat Express transportation system, developed an idea of creating a new storage facility to house its fleet of vehicles used in the running of the bus system. The Group then approached the WVDOT - Division of Public Transit, to retain a consultant to provide guidance, master planning, and detailed design for this important task.
E.L. Robinson (ELR) was selected to provide these services, and prepared a master plan incorporating existing facilities, the proposed vehicle storage building, and future growth nodes. After surveying of the 9.04 acre site was complete and a master plan was in place, ELR followed up with geotechnical investigations that would support architectural and site-civil documents for the construction of a 10,560 square foot facility, with restrooms, offices, maintenance areas, parking, motorpool area, infrastructure and landscaping. The project is currently in construction and should be open for use by winter 2005-06.
