  Lewis Landslide Emergency Project

E.L. Robinson was contracted by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources to investigate and provide design services to abate a large landslide.

The challenge: the landslide was located up slope from a sewage treatment plant access road and below a relocated log cabin. The log cabin was situated on a concrete slab which was on an excavated bench. The landslide forced the paved access road to be closed to traffic, and a high school football field is located on the opposite side of the road. The concrete slab on the down slope side was unsupported due to the slide. The slab was cantilevered out several feet and required temporary support to prevent failure of the slab. The slope of the scarp from the cabin down to a bench was nearly l:l. The area at the bench elevation was extremely wet with areas of ponded water. Large trees had fallen over and blocked the access.

E.L. Robinson surveyed, mapped, provided exploratory drilling, designed a retaining wall and rock buttress, and provided inspection services on the project. Now, the paved access road is opened to traffic, and students can safely enjoy their football field.
